dbed_update - create or update the VERITAS Storage Foundation for Oracle VxDBA repository

SYNOPSIS

AVAILABILITY

VERITAS Storage Foundation for Oracle. To determine whether this product is installed on a HP-UX system, enter:

swlist VRTSdbed

DESCRIPTION

The dbed_update command creates a repository in the /etc/vx/vxdba/ORACLE_SID directory, which stores information used by VERITAS Storage Foundation for Oracle. The repository contains Storage Checkpoint information, the dbed_mon configuration file, and tablespace and datafile information. If the repository already exists, the command will refresh it. To use dbed_update, the database must be up and running, and the ORACLE_SID and the ORACLE_HOME variables must be specified with and -S and -H options.

OPTIONS

The following options are supported:

-S ORACLE_SID

Specifies the name of the Oracle database whose information will be retrieved.

-H ORACLE_HOME

The ORACLE_HOME setting for the ORACLE_SID database.

-n

Retrieves new information about the database and compares it to the information saved in the VxDBA repository. Displays the results but does not update VxDBA repository.

-h

Shows command usage.

NOTES

dbed_update must be run as Oracle DBA user to retrieve information from an Oracle database.
