vxgrowfs.sh - extend a file system and its underlying volume when the file system reaches a defined space limit

This command is part of VERITAS Storage Foundation for Databases.

DESCRIPTION

The vxgrowfs.sh command is not normally executed manually. This command is called by the dbed_mon monitoring agent for Oracle or the db2ed_mon monitoring agent for DB2 when a file system reaches a defined space limit. vxgrowfs.sh attempts to grow the underlying volume that the file system resides on and then grows the file system.

vxgrowfs.sh is primarily used to ensure that the file system does not run out of space when Storage Checkpoints are used for database backups. However, it can also be used to automatically resize due to any event that threatens to consume the remaining available disk space.

OPTIONS

Five arguments are supplied to the vxgrowfs.sh command:

/mount_point

/dev GROW_AMT

DATABASE_NAME

For Oracle, this argument is the ORACLE_SID. For DB2, it is DB2DATABASE.

/file

For Oracle, this argument is the ORACLE_SID. For DB2, it is DB2DATABASE.

/dev

For Oracle, this argument is the ORACLE_SID. For DB2, it is DB2DATABASE.

GROW_AMT

Specify GROW_AMT in megabytes (for example, 10m or 10M) i or as a percentage (for example, 10 for 10 percent).

NOTES

By default, vxgrowfs.sh performs a simple grow of volumes and file systems when the growth threshold is reached. This may not meet your requirements if you have volumes with non-default storage attributes. The command allows allocation policies to be set when growing volumes. You can add your own logic for cases where there are different policies for a range of volumes on the system. The VOLOPTS variable in the command can be modified to support required options.
