Obtaining Database FlashSnap Snapshot Status and Database Status Using the CLI

You can obtain both the snapshot status and the database status from the command line using thedbed_vmchecksnap command with the -o list option. The snapshot status and database status information may also appear in error messages. The tables in this section provide detailed information about the various status values.

Snapshot Status Details

To view snapshot status information from the command line, use thedbed_vmchecksnap command with the -o list option to list all available snapplans for a specified database. Snapshot status information is displayed in the command output under the column heading SNAP_STATUS.

  • dbed_vmchecksnap -o validate (successful)
  • dbed_vmsnap -o resync (successful)
  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_commit (successful)
  • dbed_vmsnap -o snapshot

init_db

  • dbed_vmchecksnap -o validate -f snapplan (failed)

snapshot_start

  • dbed_vmsnap -o snapshot (failed)
  • Contact your system administrator for help. Use VERITAS Volume Manager commands to resynchronize the snapshot volumes, and use dbed_vmsnap -o snapshot -F to force snapshot creation.

snapshot_end

  • dbed_vmsnap -o snapshot (successful)
  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_abort (successful)
  • dbed_vmsnap -o resync
  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_begin
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o mount|mountdb|recoverdb

resync_start

  • dbed_vmsnap -o resync (failed)
  • Contact your system administrator for help. Use VERITAS Volume Manager commands to resynchronize the snapshot volumes, and use dbed_vmsnap -o snapshot -F to force snapshot creation.

reverse_resync_begin_start

  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_begin (failed)
  • Contact VERITAS support.

reverse_resync_begin_end

  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_begin (successful)
  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_abort
  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_commit

reverse_resync_abort_end

  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_abort (successful)
  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_begin
  • dbed_vmsnap -o resync
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o restartdb (with DB_STATUS set to database_recovered)

reverse_resync_commit_start

  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_commit (failed)
  • Contact VERITAS support.

mount_start

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o mount (failed)
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount

mount_end

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o mount (successful)
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount

restartdb_start

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o restartdb (failed)
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount
  • Start the snapshot database manually.

restartdb_end

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o restartdb (successful)
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount

mountdb_start

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o mountdb (failed)
  • Recover the snapshot database manually, then run dbed_vmclonedb -o update_status

mountdb_end

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o mountdb (successful)
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o update_status
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount

recoverdb_start

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o recoverdb (failed)
  • Recover the snapshot database manually, then run dbed_vmclonedb -o update_status
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount

recoverdb_end

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o recoverdb (successful)
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount

umount_start

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount (failed)
  • Verify that your file system(s) are not busy and retry the command.

umount_end

  • dbed_vmclonedb -o umount (successful)
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o mount
  • dbed_vmclonedb -o restartdb
  • dbed_vmsnap -o resync
  • dbed_vmsnap -o reverse_resync_begin

Database Status Details
