Upgrading VVR Without Disrupting Replication

This section describes the upgrade procedure from VVR 3.5 Update 3 to VVR 4.1 when replication is in progress, assuming that you do not need to upgrade all the hosts in the RDS, simultaneously. For information about setting up replication between versions, see Planning an Upgrade from VVR 3.5 Update 3.

Considering that initially both the Primary and the Secondary have 3.5 Update 3 installed, the upgrade can be performed either on the Primary or on the Secondary. Following are two set of steps, one for the Primary upgrade and one for the Secondary.

Upgrading on the Secondary

1. Stop replication to the Secondary host by initiating a Primary pause:
     # vradmin -g diskgroup pauserep local_rvgname sec_hostname
2. Follow the instructions provided in Upgrading from VVR 3.5 or Later using the Product Installer to upgrade from VVR 3.5 Update 3 to VVR 4.1 on the Secondary.
3. Resume the replication from the Primary:
     # vradmin -g diskgroup resumerep local_rvgname sec_hostname

Upgrading on the Primary

Follow the instructions provided in Upgrading from VVR 3.5 or Later using the Product Installer to upgrade from VVR 3.5 Update 3 to VVR 4.1 on the Primary.
