Netra CP2160 CompactPCI Board Product Note |
This product note document is written for users of the Netra CP2160 CompactPCI host/satellite board. The Netra CP2160 CompactPCI host/satellite board is a crucial building block that network equipment providers (NEPs) can use when scaling and improving the availability of next-generation, carrier-grade systems. Based on industry standards, it provides a low-cost solution easily customized for satellite processing.
Information on hardware, software, firmware, and patches for this product is located at the product web site:

Note - Do not install the XCP2060-TRN I/O transition card before reading the XCP2060-TRN I/O Transition Card Manual for Netra CP2060/CP2080/CP2160 CompactPCI Boards (806-6203-xx). |
Be sure to check the contents of your package against the packing list on your box.
Please keep the Sun packaging as this will be required for the return of any failed units for repair. If any of the items are missing or damaged, contact your authorized Sun representative indicated in the section Technical Support. The Netra CP2160 board kit contains the following (see FIGURE 1 for an illustration of the Netra CP2160 board):
For general safety information, refer to Important Safety Information for Sun Hardware Systems (816-7190-xx).
For additional board-specific safety information, refer to the Netra CP2160 CompactPCI Board Installation and Technical Reference Manual (816-5772-xx). These documents can be found at the following hardware documentation web site:

The Solaris 8 2/02 operating environment and compatible versions are supported by the Netra CP2160 board. The CP2000 Supplemental CD 4.0 for Solaris 8
(705-0428-xx) contains additional features for the Netra CP2160 board, such as satellite hot-swap support. CP2000 Supplemental CD 3.1 for Solaris 8 (704-7710-xx) can also be used with the Netra CP2160 board, but does not have all of the features of the CD 4.0. For information on how to obtain the CD, refer to the product web site:
http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/nep/hardware/boards/cp2160
The CPU module, the heat sink, the power module, and the front panel are an integral part of the Netra CP2160 board. Any attempt to remove these components from the board will void your warranty. See the Netra CP2160 CompactPCI Board Installation and Technical Reference Manual (816-5772-xx) to determine the location of these components.
Refer to the Netra CP2160 CompactPCI Board Installation and Technical Reference Manual (816-5772-xx) for comprehensive technical details. This manual and other Netra CP2160 board documentation can be downloaded from the following hardware documentation web site:

If you have any technical questions or issues that are not addressed in the Netra CP2160 board documentation set or on the web site, contact your local Sun Enterprise Services. For customers in the U.S. or Canada, call 1-800-USA-4SUN
(1-800-872-4786). For customers in the rest of the world, find the World Wide Solution Center nearest you by visiting our web site:
http://www.sun.com/service/contacting/solution.html
When you call Enterprise Services, be sure to indicate that the Netra CP2160 board was purchased separately and is not associated with a system. Have the board identification information ready when you call. The Netra CP2160 board part number, serial number, and revision can be found on the board labels. For proper identification of the board, see the list below and FIGURE 2.
The Sun barcode label provides the following information (see FIGURE 2):
The Dash/Revision/Date Code label provides the following information (see FIGURE 2):
You must get Return Material Authorization (RMA) numbers from Sun Enterprise Services or the World Wide Solution Center for each part you intend to return.
Note - If Sun Enterprise Services asks for a system serial number, be sure to indicate that the board was purchased separately and is not associated with a system. Identify the product by part number as indicated in Technical Support. |
Sun Enterprise Services will give you specific details on the return procedure for your geographic area. In addition, follow these guidelines in packaging the hardware and addressing the package.
The serial I2C EEPROM stores the backup copy of the board MAC address and host ID information. The MAC address label is partially on top of the EEPROM and partially on top of the J3 connector (see FIGURE 2). If you need to replace the Netra CP2160 board, remove the Serial I2C EEPROM from the original board and install it on the new CP2160 board. Remove the MAC address label completely from the board when you remove the EEPROM device.
To correctly position the EEPROM device on the board and to precisely install it on the Netra CP2160 board, see Netra CP2160 CompactPCI Board Installation and Technical Reference Manual (816-5772-xx).
