How much CPU and memory does Secure Global Desktop require?
The CPU and memory requirements for a Sun Secure Global Desktop Software host can be calculated based on:
- what is needed to install and run Secure Global Desktop; plus
- what is needed for each user who logs in to Secure Global Desktop on the host; plus
- what is needed to access applications using Secure Global Desktop.
As each environment is different, the following requirements should
be used only as a guide and not as an exact sizing tool. For detailed help
with host sizing, contact a Sun Secure Global Desktop Software sales office.
Assuming the host will be used only for Secure Global Desktop, you will need:
- 256MB free disk space, plus another 100MB at install time.
- 256MB RAM.
- 1GHz processor.
Note This is in addition to what is required for
the operating system.
In addition, for users who log in to Secure Global Desktop and have webtop
sessions on the host, you will need:
- about 1MB for each user.
- in a typical installation, 5MHz for each user.
CPU requirements can
vary significantly depending on the applications used.
In addition, for the applications users will be accessing through
emulator sessions running on the host, you will need:
- For each X application, 2MB to 40MB for each user.
The actual memory
required depends on factors such as screen size, color depth and the number
of windows. - For each X application displayed using Client Window Management, 1MB for
each user.
This is in addition to memory requirement for the X application
itself. - For a full Windows session or Windows application, 4MB to 20MB for each user.
- For character applications, about 200KB for each user.
- For each 3270 or 5250 application, 1.5MB for each user.
